Manganoan Calcite
Titan Mining Empire State Mine #4, Newfold Ore Body, 3,981 level,
Balmat, St Lawrence County, New York, USA
10 cm tall x 8.5 cm wide
New York State has not traditionally been recognized for outstanding mineral specimens. However, the recent discovery of Manganoan Calcite in upstate New York has significantly altered this perception.
This mine has been in operation since 1838. Over the past 185 years it produced very few collector minerals.
In 2022-23 pockets of Manganoan Calcite crystals were discovered which rank among the finest worldwide.
The crystal group has a lavender hue with an outstanding transparent crystal at the apex and translucent crystals as the matrix. The luster is a glass surface reflecting light across the facets of each crystal. The structure demonstrates a complex, geometric pattern, showcasing natural beauty and intricacy which emphasizes the crystal's delicate colors.
These pink and lavender crystals will be recorded in history as among the most important calcite discoveries.
